You can't really use Windows Media Player to put songs on an iPod. I've tried, it doesn't work. If you don't want to get iTunes, supposedly the new Winamp (found at www.winamp.com) allows you to Sync up songs from there to your iPod.
However, I highly suggest you get iTunes. You don't need to use it as your media player. In fact, it really stinks on PCs. I use Winamp, but I have iTunes for the sole purpose of putting songs onto my iPod. It's a bit of a hassle, but almost necessary as any hardware updates comes directly from iTunes.
So if you use iTunes, you connect up your iPod. But first, make sure you installed the CD. That's soooo important. Once you connect up your iPod, it's always good to check for hardware updates and restoring it, just in case it got screwed up in the time from the factory to your house. Once the iPod is connected, you'll see on your left navigation bar a symbol for your iPod. Just drag music from your library over onto that symbol and it transfers over. It's that simple. Same thing works for playlists.

you have to have your music installed on Itunes. The ipod Comes with a disc u have to install taht and register the ipod and all taht good stuff. once its all installed. open itunes and go to the menu at the top and go to the tab then inport the folder where all ur music is on. it should then put all music on itunes. once that is done.
if u want to add movies or videos they have to be in mp4 or mov format or it wont allow them on. u may have to buy a coverter for this which will cost u at the most is 30 bucks..
try downloading free jodix video conveter
www.jodix.com
that is free and what u will use to convert ur files for they can open on itunes. make sure you open the converted file into itunes not the old one.

You need to use iTunes, which is a problem I had as I had a lot of music and videos in windows media format from my media center pc and they just dont work on the ipod, and converting them all takes a loooong time, believe me so what I do it download stuff from http://www.faqata.com/url/my-ipod-downloads.php as its all in an ipod compatible format, so once its downloaded I just drag and drop in itunes and its up and running.

Gosh. There's NO way Windows Media Player can sync with you iPod.
Download iTunes first. www.apple.com/itunes/download
Then, drag your songs to the library if its in WMA format. iTunes would convert your songs to the format suitable for your iPod which is either MP3 or AAC. After the converting, you drag the songs to your iPod.
If you want to load videos into your iPod, it'll have to be in MP4 format.

This website is totally free. Convert your videos then drag it to your iPod.
Hope this helps.
Cheers =D

To put stuff on your iPod, you can only use iTunes.
Put all your music and videos into iTunes and connect your iPod, they should go in there automatically, if not drag and drop.
