my friend today said there aren't any decent Black males. I immediately took offense to this of course. For personal reasons, and because she has a brother who is married making 6 figures and doing quite well. What about him. She then corrected her statement to say "available" Black men. But that just begs the question what do sisters consider decent. I mean, I have co-workers who are black and they're single. Whats wrong with them. So what does a brother have to be to be considered decent?

Of course there are. That's just their excuse for saying "I'm a b*tch and I can't find a man."

There are good men of all races out there. You can't always wait for them to come for you. Sometimes you have to get off your bum and look for them!

Well, I think she means by there are no decent black men, she means that they are all taken.

What does a man have to do to be considered decent;

He has to be responsive to someone else's needs,

not be self-absorbed,

BE FAITHFUL to one woman,

above all tell the whole truth,

yes have a J-O-B,

not have an ego that's easily bruised,

and trust that not all women are users.

It seems within the Black community, there is a huge gender schism and that's a shame.

Decent to me
He works
Has a positive outlook on life
Knows how to handle his money
Has goals
cares about other people
knows how to manage his time
honest
not a thug, or angry man blaming any problems he might have on everyone but himself...
reliable
there is more but I will be writing forever... I know plenty of black men like I just described I think it is all in who you want to be around.... I have quite a few friends who like thugs and they are done wrong time and time again by trifiling fools, but yet they think my husband (he is the most decent man that I know)who has his **** together and is nice to me and our son, and treats other people with respect is boring...

I hope so. They are out there but just harder to find. I think a lot of Black women just want men with $$$. You could be overlooking a gem if you use this criteria. Also, a lot of the educated ones are either already married or are in an interracial relationship.

I would consider a 'decent' man to be one who:
-does not have children from a previous relationship (MARRIAGE is something totally different)
-is educated
-pays his own way (does not rely on others)
-is respectful
-grooms himself well
-is trustworthy, kind and compassionate
-listens well
-is assertive (at the right times)

That sounds about right! :-)

There are plenty of good black men out there. I found one and we're getting married in October! It was easy to find him too.

I <3 my daddy! He became consistently there for me and my 3 sisters AND he raised my cousin with us who wasn't even his biologically. My dad is astonishing. He actually taught me first hand what a actual guy is meant to be like.

I am a decent black guy, and there is more to me than what I

make. I have heart, soul, class, and love for others. I consider

myself blessed.

Hmmm. My new hubby told me he only had danced with me to win me over, and that he would never dance with me again because he 'had' me now. And that was after two weeks!

That was not decent, at all!!!

Most women agree that a decent man is one who is accountable, kind, generous to his lady, hardworking and pleasant to be around.
