My personal definition of a goth is people who are extremely artistic and feel as though their emotions cannot be expressed only through their clothing. They also feel as though nobody in the world can understand the way they feel. In short, they are poetic and deep.

Someone who is reaching out for identity.
Someone who does not have their own identity, and is afraid that they won't fit in or make it if they don't belong.
Someone who does not stand on his/her own 2 feet.
Someone who wants to hide their bad stuff - bad feelings - and their "secrets" - except everyone knows - because they choose black.
I knew some who chose goth - but they got tired of it, and now 1 chooses to be called "punk", one's into asian, one's into heroine, and one could care less about anything except smoking weed.
