alternative, that you may wish to consider. Deserves a
mention, since it always gets left out of the equation.
Good OEM suppliers can of course discount the Retail
prices in the appropriate way.

You cannot get only power point, you have to buy the whole Microsoft Office which has word, excel, power point and access. You can also gat a trial version in Limewire and buy it later

Get OpenOffice. Is free and does the same. OpenOffice Impress does the same as Power Point and for no cost.
