The US country as a whole is apathetic... many believe that the US is the Savior of other countries... many have bought the Republican's propaganda.
Yes, I imagine that many of us are under surveillance and, because of the Patriot Act (which is anything but patriotic) we can be imprisoned for our words and actions.
