Although it may not be true that You personally could be sued, your parents may be in just as much trouble. In many states, the parents are responsible for every action of their children. However, if the only content was that you didn't like your teacher, I don't know how bad that could really get for you. If you said untrue things about him/her, that's where you can get in some serious trouble.

Make all the students delete the group if not their accounts. Suspension for all the students, maybe a harsher punishment. They certainly wouldn't be allowed to use the school computers again.
The issue of slander depends on what else the group said. Anything published anywhere (online, in a yearbook, newletter, ANYTHING) can be slander if it speaks negatively of a person, whether it is true or not. Saying you hate him wasn't enough, but if you said other things in the group that was negative about him, it could be considered slander.
This is why you should always be careful what you say about other people online, unlike most students think, the internet isn't a private group. Anyone can read it.

It's tough to answer this question without all of the facts. However, I know there were a few teachers I would have liked to have started a group about back when I was in school- Especially college. Most everyone seems to think that the kids are all to blame but what is the teacher doing to cause this whole problem? As long as the group's postings are factual and nonthreatening it is not slandering. Everyone is entitled to their opinion- Freedom of speech baby (at least in America). It's only slandering if you make false statements about the teacher and it hurts his or her's credibility.

I think the school was way too easy. I would have expelled for the balance of the school year and permitted back in the fall only after a psychiatric follow up as well as letters of apology and counseling paid for by the student's families. Also, probationary status for the next school year and full disclosure of this on the student's record so that any college or university will know of this most deranged act so that they can watch these students. I think these acts are not taken seriously enough by many schools. If I were the teacher I would also look into possible criminal charges and possible civil penalities as well.

Since you are minors, it's unlikely that you will be formally sued, but you're definitely in big trouble. It was a petty, hateful, and hurtful thing to do, and you need to realize that. Hopefully, your apologies were sincere, and not just to save your butts. Even if your teacher is a total jerk, it was wrong to stoop to such a low level to get back at him/her.
If I were you, I'd definitely delete the offending webpage, and change your personal myspace page to private for awhile (essentially take it off the air, so no one can view it for a few months). Stop using the school computers to insult school employees, and limit your use of them to academics only.

Im sorry to say, but expelling or severe suspension could take action, depending on the age group who posted it.
GOOD LUCK.

screw 'em. If you use your own computer at home hey no problem. Let them sue then counter sue for being annoying. If you used the schools computers however they can punish you for misuse of school property.
Fight the power.
