Ryan Smyth was receptive to hitting the free agent market this summer; if he wasn't, he would have accepted a more than generous deal from Edmonton.

This might sound ridiculous, but it could end up being a rental situation for the Isles. If Smyth, an Alberta native, truly wants to play in Edmonton, he can sign a new deal with the Oilers in the offseason. If not, at least Edmonton picked up two decent prospects and what projects to be a mid-1st round selection.
Ryan O'Marra will be a very, very good centreman and Robert Nilsson, although initially rushed by the Islanders, could develop into a near perfect fit for the Oilers.

I don't expect the Islanders to get past Buffalo or New Jersey in the first round, so barring some unforeseen developments, the Isles mortgaged some potential for a wing and a prayer this year. It was particularly perplexing when considering all of the talk about them wanting to move Jason Blake.

I was very shocked when they traded Ryan. They traded away Mr. Oiler although he was not the captain. He was the Oilers. But it's a business so we have to move on. I think they will regret the fact that they traded him though.

So it's a bummer for the fans. Too bad...

As far as I'm concerned, they have to be about the worst fans in the NHL. I've never heard a crowd BOO their own team at the home arena more than these guys. It's unbelievable. I'm sure we've all been mad &/or frusterated with our team, but the whole place whines and crabs....at once!

If I was on a team that lost it's star player, and had home town fans who were less than supportive or positive, I'd play like crap too.

Just my opinion, of course.......

Blues and pens fan: Heatley wasn't below the effect of alcohol however, he became in basic terms driving fairly speedy and prefer and fool. the biggest reason he prevented jailtime, in accordance to the choose, became because of the fact Dan Snyder's parent's mentioned they did not wan to him to could bypass to reformatory. As for the question: i might could say no, if he got here i assume it may well be very nicely, i does not merchandise, yet one has to ask your self how long until he asks to be traded out of Edmonton, sounds like he could be extra of a headache down the line than he's well worth. there is lots of super gamers interior the NHL, if' i'm the Oil, I pass directly to somebody else.

first off jason smith is the captain of the oilers second of all if it meant that much for him to stay with edmonton over a hundred thousand a year he would have taken the offer what did he think he wanted 5.5 million they offered him 5.4 million greed stood in his way they got a good deal for him and the gm took it remember they traded WAYNE so he had to know better
