She reads a book for the narrative story only. She doesn't understand why everybody agrees on a theme of a piece of literature without having to hear it from the author him/herself. I might not ever change her opinion. How can I explain what teachers teach is not just made up tripe? How can I help her to open her mind a little about literature and the deeper meaning of it?

i agree that some people are not really into reading books but same as you i too think that the person i'm with should have at least the ability to read some kind of litrature.since i'm a book freak.
so maybe you can start by telling her about this amazing book u r reading &how u think everyone should read it.
explain why do u like it, and how fun it is to read, most people i know felt excited when i did this.and in the first occasion when they had free time they asked me about recomendations &old books that i read.

Some people don't appreciate literature. If she's not interested, let it go; however, if she wants to understand, maybe starting with songs and movies will help.

You cannot change her. Please, let her be. She is who she is.

My husband of 17 years hates to read! And I'm a writer. That makes us pretty much opposites but we respect each others interests and THAT is what a good relationship is all about - it isn't about forcing your partner to appreciate something she has little interest in.

This may be one of the subjects on which you never agree.
Literature is subject to our own interpretations. We should all enjoy each writing in our own way.

Why are you trying to change her? So she's not into all that, so what???? Is that a make or break item with you?

Accept her as she is or break up with her.
