So one of my friends got a new color nano (like the pink and blue ones) i have the older (not that old) black/white ones, and my friend with the newer nano said hers can play videos, can the older nanos play videos??

Nanos are not able to play videos because they don't have that feature. You have to rewire the hard drive or hack into it, which is illegal. That can also lead to your warranty being void because you have modified the iPod. Even if you deleted the video, Apple can still find out because they might refurbish it, and they can find out whether the iPod has been rewired or hacked into.

What technology Nano is it? Rockbox is firmware you place on your media participant to allow you to do extra with it. even nevertheless it in basic terms works on 1st gen Nano's and maybe 2d. in simple terms look it up.
