Yes. There exists programs to retrace the footprint. However if you have installed a reputable virus protection to check files, internet , network, e-mail and have Internet 7 with windowsXP service pack2, then no-one has any chance of getting into your computer. Obviously keep each protection automatically updated using the options available which came with Windows XP service pack 2.
