I know that chrome is pretty run of the mill and brushed nickle looks nice, but brushed is more money[lots] its harder to find parts it really shows finger prints and stains fairly easy

depends on who makes it. read all the warranties very carefully. some don't even cover the finish, others are only a year, but some are lifetime! personally I prefer the look of the nickel and if it's a cheaper faucet, the chrome will be a layer embedded into plastic. watch out!

They are both good. But they look different -- if you put the two finishes side by side, the chrome seems to be bluish silver and nickel has a yellower tint (very slight). Nickel has a somewhat vintage/old fashioned/classic look. Nickel is often more expensive.
