I recently relocated to the DFW area because my husband got a new job here, but I still need to finish my Bachelor's degree in History. So far, the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University have more appeal than the other schools I have looked at because they would only require me to complete 30 hours at their institutions in order to graduate (which is really about all I will need) versus the 60-66 I have seen elsewhere. Additionally, I am thinking about getting a master's degree in library science, which both of these schools offer. I have not yet visited either campus or been informed if and how my previous college credits will transfer. My final decision will probably be based mostly on financial aid, but I would appreciate your thoughts on both campuses, especially on their history and women's studies programs.

First of all, let me disclose that I graduated from University of North Texas.

From personal experience, I can tell you UNT has a slightly "better" reputation. It is a larger school, and TWU has almost been annexed by UNT more than once. Lots of angry women decend upon Austin and TWU survives.

If you are not going to work and attend classes during the day, I think you would be better of at UNT. If you intend on taking web or night classes, you are better off at TWU. UNT is not "friendly" for non-tradiational students at the undergrad level, and most of their students live on campus and are 18-25.

TWU on the other hand is much better equipped for non-tradional students at the undergrad level and actively recruits adult learners. TWU, for undergraduate work, just does not have as good of an academic reputation.

As far as MLS is concerned, both schools are WELL known to local libraries and have equally excellent reputations for their MLS programs. If you talk to reference librarians in the area, they will tell you they both have equal standing in the North Texas area. So in that respect, pick the one that you feel more confortable at. Visit them both, they both have different "feel" to them.

I go to TWU. From what you tell me... TWU is the best choice.
