It's usually a touchy subject with alot of older people. By older I mean normally someone that is over 35, someone that never experienced spring break, someone that never watched MTV, someone that has never really been totally in touch with the culture that the kids are growing up in today.
I actually work in a teen center with teens. I notice the same thing and am not really shocked at all. Everything they see is geared to an older generation. The things that people that grew up in the 60's forgot all about Woodstock and everything they did. It goes with the old saying,"I've already done it, so you don't have to."
Which is completely false, kids are going up faster and faster now, check out the movies they watch. Really, it's the movies that everyone make popular, Jackass and Borat are just 2 outrageous examples.
They have access to everything now, because of the Internet. Also because of us, now I just turned 30 myself and I remember my mother making a big deal about me watching The Simpson's because Bart had a bad attitude. Well, That just pushed me harder to make a separation, a break between the generations. I though Bart was just funny, for something to be shocking it had to be something else. Hence my generation brought you Jackass and Borat.
Your work as an 18 year old is not to push them away but to hold them closer. Make sure they are checking themselves, when they are more self aware. They will be less likely to pull a Britney Spears or Paris Hilton, these are the people they are watching and imitating. You should set a more positive role model and not everyone will follow but some will. That's the most important thing I think. Peace out

I'm 18 as well.
I live in a town possessed with fashion, and buying more and more things, and just becoming more and more shallow.
So this is nothing new to me, but the thing is that, here everyone dresses like high maintenance prostitutes.
I actually made peace with the fact that people would not have money to feed themselves, but have the money to go shopping every Saturday.
Those are the values we give to the younger generation, they are not to blame.
The girls today think that if they dress like prostitutes will, attract more attention, and bother on their outer look and just go dumb.
What can you do?

That's because 13-15 years are grown up people, that's the fact that are often forgotten and denied today.
As for heavy makeup with clothes too tight and too revealing.
Well, if older grown up wear them, why not younger grown up?
However if older grown up don't, then they shouldn't.
They should look good, they shouldn't act like their age and in the same time they shouldn't don't act like their age.
As for it look horrible and so on.
That's what happen if girls dress on their own, they should let guys dress them, because only a guy can make a girl look good in a dress.
The best fashion designers are males.

I am 12, almost 13, and people in our school do that.
I personally think it's stupid.
Why hide your face?
And tight clothes make you look trashy.
I think its really stupid.
I have a cell phone, but barely use it. I was given it for emergancys, but I am allowed to use it for friends. Cell Phone's aren't the problem.

Yes. I have the exact same situation! I'm 17, and my little sister is 13 and in 7th grade... She and her friends wear more make up than me or ANY of my friends its rediculous! Their clothes are like 3 sizes to small and they all wear bras that have cup sizes larger than actually fit them so their super tight clothes look good. I think its retarded and they are trying to grow up entirely to fast!

I agree. I also think that people are getting cellphones way tooooo early. They just want to act cool which bugs me. I hope they put all that effort into school because most of "them" aren't very smart. I wear some of those clothes but never very tight.

yea... im 14 but like i still see kids my age like wearing way too much makeup and dressing really slutty. like last year when i was in 8th graders they 6th graders wore like skirts that hardly covered their butts and like they wore more make up in one day than i would wear in like a week. so yes. i agree with you but i definetly don't dress like that.
to all of you girls out there that do dress like that, all of my guy friends said its a huuuuuuge turn off. just to let you know ;-)
