Welsh? I thought surely he was born in Scotland before he came to teach reading and Christianity to the Irish lads and lasses.

Did you know that the FIRST ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE was NOT in Ireland? but the United States?
FACTS: The Irish Soldiers serving in the English military marched through New York City on March 17, 1762. Along with their music the parade helped the Soldiers reconnect with their Irish roots.
Up until the mid-nineteenth century, Irish immigrants were despised for their religious beliefs and funny accents and had trouble finding even menial jobs. Once the Irish realized that their great numbers endowed them with a political power, they started to organize and their voting block became known as "The GREEN Machine", and became an important swing vote for political hopefuls. The annual parade became a show of strength for Irish Americans, as well as a must-attend event for political candidates.
In 1948, President Truman attended New York's City's St. Patrick's Day Parade which led to the acceptance of the Irish in the United States.
I'm Welsh, but love a Pint of Green Beer, once a year.

But of course he was Welsh. Who said they were Irish raiders? Did they have their passports? He was brought by Welsh raiders to mind their cattle as a servant. Irish people learn this story when they are a week old. It is old news now.

Well, I know enough to know it's St. Patrick's Day not Paddy. And yes, it is fairly common knowledge that he was not a native Irelander. Although you are wrong, he was NOT from Wales
