They say they are going to specialize in obituaries since people die all the time they figure that if they will have alot of business. No joke. They asked what I thought, I think its a good idea (they do good work from what Ive seen). Does anyone know about this type of business?? What would be a good way for them to drum up STEADY business for a consistent second income.

Obituaries are usually written by funeral directors, or someone in the immediate family of the departed.

Desktop publishing has more to do with advertising and other corporate media. And let me tell you, there are millions of people doing it. And furthermore, these days, the software is so cheap and good that most small businesses are able to do it themselves.

Not to rain on anyone's parade. I would suggest that you friend or relative get into the business on a very part time basis. If it pans out, great! If not, then they can go back to doing what they were doing.

In being successful...little to none.

Families in their moment of grief put together some words for the obituary. They usual ask the best writer in the immediate family to do this.

Other than asking Funeral Home Directors for referrals I don't see how one would expect a lot of people to come to him.

Ans besides the Funeral Parlor may perceive him as trying to cut in on their action.

hmm... make friends with a few muslim terrorists... they'll supply you with customers every time one of them blows himself up in a busy place.
I don't really see how someone could make serious money on this, from what I've seen most of the obituary anouncements I've seen are pretty simple adds. I have a graphic artist streak in me, and I ain't rich.
