George R.R. Martin - A Song of Ice and Fire
Robert Jordan - The Wheel of Time
Barbara Hambly - Darwath Trilogy, Windrose Chronicles
Terry Goodkind - Wizard's First Rule (can't remember name of the series)
Christopher Stasheff - The Warlock in Spite of Himself
Liam Hearn - Tales of the Otori
Raymond E. Feist - Riftwar Saga (Magician: Apprentice is the first)
David and Leah Eddings are excellent too! I laugh so hard at those books....
Those are my very favorites... there are plenty more good ones.

Alice In Wonderland and Alice Through The Looking Glass. If all you've seen if the Disney cartoon, you're missing the excellent writing of Louis Carroll. This guy had an amazing imagination, and the undercurrent of the fantasy story is a biting political critique.

Books by David and Leigh Eddings, like The Belgaraid (that's a series) or you could read Good Omens, which I think is technically a fantasy book. The Black Tattoo by Sam Enthoven, if you really want to. Glint, by Ann Coburn which is half fantasy.

Anything by Ted Dekker (Saint, Showdown, Red, Black, White, Obsessed, Blink, etc.) Narnia series, a lesser-known series by CS Lewis, The Space Trilogy (Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, etc.) The Dune Chronicles by Frank Herbert, Eoin Colfer books are awesome, Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow by Orson Scott Card rock.... I think that's about it.
Oh, and for the record, out of all the crappy fantasies to choose from, Harry Potter is by far the worst. Anyone who tells you differently needs to get their head examined. Harry Potter is, honestly, the McDonald's Greasy Mc Greasy Mc Lardburger Mc Cow Excrement of fantasies.

A really good one you say, any books that are fiction like the american girl books so any books that you read they still have to be fiction, but my favorite fantasy book is Winnie the Pooh so you should read it, my second favorite is the macic tree house twister on tuesday it's a really good one its about when Jack and Annie go to the pioneer days and find a dugout and find out its a one room school that's a good one.

If you really want to be blown away by good SF, then read the Otherland Series by Tad Williams. There are four books in the series and they are fabulous. The premise is that the characters are stuck in a virtual reality internet environment. You'll love it.

Anything by Anne McCaffrey, Jude Fisher, Robin Hobb. They all have excellent sets of books. Robin Hobb also writes as Megan Lindholm and her books "Wizard of the Pigeons" is something different indeed.
Oooh, forgot, Phillip Pullmans "His Dark materials" series. Better in my eyes than Harry Potter.
