I really suggest that if you're a pink floyd member watching THE WALL - a movie including all songs off the wall - it tells a story of a man who is a disturbed Roger Waters

The whole album Dark Side of the Moon is about going crazy. Brain Damage is the second to last song on there. So... it's about the moment that a loon is thrown in a straight-jacket and into the asylum.
A bit of it may be about drugs, but only because the "lunatic", Syd Barrett, was mostly in his right mind until he started taking LSD.
Great song, though.

I believe it's about Syd Barrett who went a little crazy, but I don't think it was necessarily because of drugs. So I'd vote for mental illness.
