I have been watching in Indiana all these restaurants that have poor cleanliness ratings, I think it needs to be a law that the workers must wear latex gloves to prepare food. (to prevent disease).

1. Many people have allergies to latex
2. Many chefs simply could not handle food the same way - especially with rapid chopping technicques, etc and other things where you are using the more finer momvements of the hands/fingers.
3. Be practical, a gloved finger can still pick a nose, open the door, handle change, handle raw meat - and then arrange the lettuce on your plate.

Any oily product(s) would VERY rapidly cause the latex to fail - within a few minutes or less. The synthetic alternatives are even MORE unwieldy when doing certain food prep work.

Sorry, being realistic, it's a non-starter unless you just mean cheapo restaurants where there is no finesse needed in the first place - in which case just all the other comments apply - latex glover getting JUST as dirt as a regular hand.

Not disagreeing with the principle, but if an establishment has poor hygiene practices, it's just as likely the workers wear filthy gloves they've had on all day, not helping stop the spread of food-borne bacteria one bit.

Clean, recently washed hands are at least as good as latex gloves.

So if you feel uncomfortable with the way one shop handles your food, best I can recommend is go someplace else. And you may have to shop around for a bit, I know the country's in bad shape, too, but eventually they should get the message.

What makes you think that is cleaner.Do you think they dont touch dirty stuff with the gloves before touching your food. Ive worked in a resturant and I think that is the least of the worries.
The place I worked used the old leftover bread from tables to make crutons for salads.This is after they have been sitting under the place where they sat all the dirty dishes and nasty leftover food for about one to two weeks. Then they cut it up and cook it and throw it on your so called healthy salad...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Maybe they just need a more effective health department. Everytime the health department would inspect the place,the owners would be notified ahead of time and they would make everyone cleanup the place.That health department doesnt seem very affective,and could actually care less about the situation as long as they get their paychecks.Not to mention the green chicken that would be in the chicken bin that they would rotate to the top.I just threw it away. mmmmmm mmmmmm
