Consider the alternatives to homework: watching tv, hanging out, listening to music, sleeping, downtime, potential to become involved in dangerous or ill-advised other activities. The point is homework works your brain, keeps you out of trouble, makes your time productive, and helps with your grades so you can get into a better college and earn more money, so you'll have time to enjoy more leisure and recreational activities as you're older. Put in a caveat of how much homework a night, say, 2 or 3 hours a night is good. Anything more or less is not. That's how I'm approach the subject.

i think homework is good for those who need the extra practice to learn something.
i have no issue with reading assignments, but i think written assignments were a waste of my time.
the way i see it, is homework is practice for the test. If you can get good grades on the test why should you have to do the homework.
when i was in highschool (i graduated in 2000) i NEVER did homework. If i didnt understand something at first, i would do part of the assignment but as soon as i "got" it i stopped. My lowest test average for any class was a 94% and i was still only a C student.
Teachers put too much value on homework because they know that some people are bad test takers.
i think the ideal soloution for the students is for the teacher to give you the choice at the beggining of the school year of whether you want you TEST score to be the majority of you grade or you homework score...make it a 50%-30%-20% split between which one you want to be more, your class behavior and homework (for ex. 50% test score, 30% homework and 20% class behavior)
i think it wil get grades up and put a lot less stress on everyone involved

I believe teaching should be done in the classroom and the teachers should not expect their jobs to be contnued in the family home. If we paid a decent wage and had respect for our educators, we would see a better educational system. I raised three kids and my mother was a teacher, so have seen both sides.

Homework always lowered my morale.I get home, away from school...time to relax...then I had to do MORE schoolwork.Plus, whenever I had homework,I always cheated.I used to get my brother or someone else to give me the answers.Studying before a test is okay...reviewing material is okay, but actual work is overkill.
