Washington D.C. isn't in maryland. It isn't a state. It is a district. Tha capital used to be New York and Phildalphia, but lincoln moved it more south to let the southerners feel they had more say in the gov.

It used to be philidelphia but then George washington didnt want it there n e more so he moved it to maryland to the city that is now washington D.C.
