GREAT MOVE..... SHANAHAN IS A GENIUS

Doesn't look like any kind of ax to me. Denver and Tampa have worked out a trade, Plummer for a draft pick. Jake would get a good chance to be the starter in Tampa over Simms. I would think he'd jump at the chance.. What are his options - fight for a starting job in Tampa - stay in Denver as a backup - or retire. The ball is in Plummer court.

He didnt get the axe...he retired. Obviously he was going to be nothing more than a backup with the Broncos and apparently isnt interested in being traded (rumors of landing in Detroit or the Texans). Plain and simple...he is a talented but erratic QB and could not handle big game pressure and he must have enough money in the bank to not care about football anymore (if that is the case then good for him, too many guys stick around just for the paycheck).

That's the nature of the game these guy's play so long then are disregarded by the teams in favor of younger more affordable players.Cutler is the future of the Bronco's not much sense to keep Plummer around

He's overreacting. He would have gotten every chance to be the starter in Tampa. It's an ego thing, and he's still upset that Shanahan didn't demote him in person (the QB position coach did).

He wasn't going to be the starter any more, and he was schedule to make over $5 million.

None of this should have been a suprise, and the ball is in his hands to take control of his career.

He's still got some life left, but his decision making, as proven by today, will never get any better.

I think that they should have put cutler in, but i do not think that they should have been so quick to cut Jake Plummer. Since Elway retired they have been going through quarterbacks like crazy. They never give them the time to really shine. Hopefully Jay Cutler will be what we have been missing.

Plummer didn't get the Ax, they attempted to trade him to the Bucs. The Bucs werent willing to garuntee him a starting job (as well they shouldn't have) so he decided to retire. He could still start somewhere but only as a mid-season fill in.

He didn't get the ax........he for the momemt has said he is retired.......But I don't think he will stay that way.......I think its is his way of telling Shanahan go to hell..........Shanahan is not a genuis...hes a jackass......Shanahan. singlehandedly ruined his teams chances last year..........Hes is a loser and a quitter.......Personally I don't think Cutler is anything special........I think Vince Young is by far the best QB of the 2006 QB class..

Sad to see the snake retire. He'll be back in a year or two as a back up.

I think it is somewhat unfair, although he has seemed to have lost his stride lately.
