I would recommend that you first copy the file over to the PC and then decompress it as it would take less time to do that.
Then find out what format is it in zipped in.
If it has a extension .zip then you can download the Unzipping software such as winzip for free from the net and then do the upcompression of the same.

Here is a good link where you can download winrar for here: http://bit.ly/1BooiXa

You can use winrar to decompress zip files and a bunch of other formats. Other good programs are 7zip and winzip but in my opinion winrar is the best one. Fuctionalities are pretty similar for all programs: basically you can decompress a file simply by right-clicking it and by choosing the destination folder.

Winrar is available for free under a trial licence. The good thing is the trial period never ends so you can use it for free with no limitations.

Winrar opens all formats like .zip, .rar, .7z, .iso, .tar, .jar etc. That's why I recommend it.

To open compressed files (zip rar jar iso 7z cab uue gz....) you have to use WinRar. With WinRar you can easily decompress files and folders.
If you need a recent version of Winrar. Here is a free download: http://bitly.com/1p3PNvM

Probably have to copy the file to the PC first. Put it on the desktop or in My Documents.

Right-click the zipped folder and choose EXTRACT to unzip the contents. It'll create a new folder of the same name. Open that folder to retrive the files.

To preview the contents, right-click the zipped folder and choose EXPLORE.

you can't write back to the disc once the writing session is closed (unless it re-writeable), so you need to copy the zip file to your pc first, then use a program like winzip to open it.

you can download winzip trial free at winzip.com

I don't know that you can do it on the disk. I usually drag and drop the file onto my desktop, then right click it and find the option to unzip.
