A train goes forward at a speed of 1m/s for 20 seconds. Then it stops and goes backward at a speed of 0.5 m/s for 4 seconds. After both movements are completed, how far is the train located from it's starting point? (NOTE: We are asking for the trains final location not the total distance that it traveled)

Distance = velocity*time

So, in this case, you would do it like this: D=v1*t1 + v2*t2

Just remember that velocity in the second case was negative.

Distance = velocity x time
Forward distance= 1 x 20 = 20
Backward distance = -0.5 x 4 = -2
Total distance= forward-backward= 18 meters

The distance is 1*20 - 0.5*4, which is 18. It is 18 meters forward from it's original point. Don't you know this?

xguess_who_x ... fyi, m/s mean meters per second, not miles.

18 meters since 1 times 20 equals 20 meters and .5 times 4 equals 2 meters and 20-2=18

1 m/s for 20 seconds is 20 meters. .5m/s for 4 seconds is 2 meters. so 20-2 is 18 meters

18 meters from start

1m/s for 20 seconds or 20 miles. Then it backs up .5m/s for 4 seconds, therefor backing up 2 miles. didstance from the starting point is 18 miles.

The train goes forward 20 and back 2 m so it is 18m. I am in a physics unit so you also just helped me to study.

you place the goat into the wheel barrel first and take it to the different component. bypass back and positioned the wolf interior the wheelbarrel and bring him around the bridge. swap the wolf with the goat. convey the goat back to the 1st component and turn the goat with the hay. sell off the hay off on the different component of the bridge. Then bypass back and get the goat and bring it to the different component. There you have it, each and all of the animals and hay alive:P
