I have 3 small children at home and i am very carefull to keep these chargers (nokia phones charger etc)out of reach of the children.I am terrified they might take the end of the cable,as kids do and put it in their mouth.

Maybe some one with electronical/electrical knowledge can put my mind at ease and let me know if these cables would give an electrical shock if a kid put one in their mouth.

Thanks.

Some of the voltages are pretty high. 19V for a Dell laptop charger I think. Although, it isn't considered "High Voltage", consider a 9 V battery on your tongue (Don't try it if you haven't before). It could cause a tingle. There are no ifs-and-or-buts about it, not a good practice.

Even if there is no tingle or mild shock, the voltage applied to saliva in the mouth will cause electrolysis. That is the breaking down of the water in the saliva into Hydrogen & Oxygen. The free Hydrogen can create acids, the free Oxygen, well, oxidizes... Just a guess but might cause damage to teeth, stomach or digestive systems over time.

Another thing to point out would be the type of charger. Some laptops for example, don't have a BRICK you plug directly into the wall. They have a plug that goes to a BRICK. This cord is lethal.

Yes it can be dangerous for a child because if he or she put the wire of the Chargers or touch the wire with the saliva then the tongue will act like a conductor. So it's better to keep the Chargers away from small children.

Firefoxy gave the suitable answer to this. If the wall socket is on then a transformer will nonetheless take up electrical energy, dropping maximum of it as warmth. bypass on, wrap it up in a woollen jumper for 10 minutes (now no longer or it turns right into a hearth danger). After this time you will sense how plenty warmth has outfitted up in in simple terms a couple of minutes. If the wall socket is switched off then there is no electrical energy utilization. If there's a thunder hurricane interior of reach you should journey a speedy surge interior the electricty furnish that blows the transformer, that's why electric powered products could desire to consistently be unplugged (no longer in simple terms switched off) in the time of a hurricane if there is no anti-surge protection.

yes it can, it is unlikely but say for example the put the end of a phone charger into the wet mouth then a shock may occur but it will only be a little sting and little problems willl arise. Best to put away the loose wire and switch of unused instruments, common sence but hey

The answer is yes, if you touch the 2 inner wires together while it is plugged in it will electricute you. But you have to bite through the insulation first. Its the same thing as putting two fingers into an outlet. Its a live wire if its plugged in.

the power rating of these items is very low
so it is most unlikely if not a definite no
but there is clearly a choking hazard which is a significant risk. out of reach, out of danger. good philosophy.
all the best on this one.

about the same or perhaps a little less than the shock we used to get putting our tongues on our toy train tracks. well, i did anyway!LOL!! actually, thinking back to the things i used to do, i would recommend wholeheartedly getting safety fittings for all sockets. this IS a real danger to children. u may also consider having rcd's and mcb's installed. residual current devices and mini circuit breakers so if there is a lethal power serge it is cut off immediately therefore saving the child's life.

Yes, of course there is a very high risk of a low voltage (but still very shocking and painful) electric shock. The shock depends very much on the CURRENT running throught he circuit so keep these things out of the way if you are worried.

No. I am like a 24 year old toddler...everything goes in my mouth. I have never been shocked. As long as the cord is in good shape nothing should happen in the chance of a kid accidentally getting hold of it. Biting into the wire...now that is a different story. That's be a problem if they were able to stip the coating off the wires.

yes if plugged in and the terminals are directly in the mouth. the saliva in a mouth will act as a conductor and close the circuit between live and neutral, therefore letting current and voltage flow
