This is like my life's work, over ten years in the making and it is complete. So far, I've only submitted it to publishers who want a query only. It is so long and cumbersome - But I know I have to create an outline and have no idea how.and yes, now I know I should have done an outline first. So far everyone who's read it thinks it's excellent, inspiring they say. I do not plan to write it over just to get the outline.

I am also starting a non-profit SEASCAT for supportive environment for adult survivors of childhood abuse and trauma. The book is about my years with a friend who is a dissociative identity disorder. The proceeds are to be used for the startup funds, which I really could use as of yesterday.

Wow, I'm very impressed at your accomplishment. Don't stress about outlining it - you've got it broken down into chapters, right?

Start with a basic outline listing the chapters. Then, for each chapter, break your outline into the main points. Decide what the single most main point is for each chapter. If you can, break those down even further. You've already got it written, outlining should be a piece of cake!

Best wishes!

To the above answerer...ouch, that's tough. But you are lucky that you got over it, many people can't. That's a strong person. Bravo!
But to the question. I heard an author say once that he organized his book on sticky notes, each scene having a note. Maybe you could do that, then write a little bit about each scene. Then you'd have an outline.

Creative non-fiction? Are you sure that's not an oxymoron? PS I was sexually abused and have two alcoholic parents. I got over it. Don't waste your time
