Processor speed, better graphics card, hard drive size, hard drive speed? I'm already going to be getting 2gb of ram so thats not an issue. Which of these makes the biggest difference in performance in order? Thanks

Dual core processor.

All of them are combined and depends in what kind of performance you are looking for px. gaming ,video encoding, data processing etc.Anyway when you buy a processor dont look just for the faster core speed but also for the ammount of cashe memory is very important. The graphics card effects gaming mostly.A good (and expensive) motherboard is the basis for all the system since it handles not only the CPU but also the RAM and the hardrives and having a good chipset onboard increase the bandwidth of all the above and the communication between them boosting performance. If you cant have them all then try for gaming to spend more in graphics card, for the rest -FAST- RAM even 1gb is ok and good mobo etc. Finally hard drive speeds are very similar to all types so is not so important and the size is a matter of the needs you have for storage but i guess 250gb is the minimum .I thing the better choice is a balanced system ....

in a pc.. EVERY component has all kinds of effect on performance.. and varies by what kind of performance.

Generally speaking, Processor speed will have the biggest impact on performance since it is the pain processor or the pc.. like a human's brain.
Ex))If John's brain is slow, big chance John is a slow person.

Another big performance issue is with the main board.
The main board (mother board) is like the skeleton of the PC.
Main board should be powerful enough to support the Processor and any other components that are attached to it.
Ex))If John's brain is fast, but his bone is too weak to support anything, big chance that John's brain will not perform 100%.

In hard drive, speed would be important.
If the brain is fast, but the speed of hard drive can only go up to a certain point, the brain can't do anything about it.

ex)) if John has a fast brain, but his arm effed up from an accident, his brain will send signal to his arm to move fast, but this effed up arm wouldn't do much good.

As to hard drive size, really doesn't matter. Just remember to partition out about 10% from the total bytes it can hold, because if you don't and your harddrive gets filled to the max, good chance your hard drive life will decrease.

now.. graphics card comes into performance mostly in gaming or graphic/3D design.
Basically, more graphic ram it has, your 2GB ram will rest in peace and will be free to do other stuff.

So if I would put things in order it would be

CPU (processor) and Mother board - RAM - Graphics card (in gaming performance) - Harddrive speed.

Just a reminder...
if you have a good graphics card.. make sure you have a good monitor that can actully support your graphics card.

ex)) John has great sight sensing skills, but his eyes are too effed up to see anything.

...get the point right?

There are more detailed components.. like cache, difference in RAMs as to.. pc2xxx and pc 4xxx.. these days have pc 5xxx. What type of graphic card the mother board can support... etc.
