this is the NBA there is no compensation with draft pick from signing FAs

a restricted FA means that that player opted out early so he can get a bigger deal this happens with the players option from a contract. His current team has the right to match any offer he may agree to and that team can then pay him that price. IF a player wants to leave his team he can either stay with his current club. sign an offer sheet his current club can't possibly match, ask his current team not to match his offer sheet (sometimes resulting in a sign and trade), or he can sign with his current team for a limited amount of time and become a unrestriced FA after that deal is up.

A unrestricted FA can agree to sign with any team he wants to for whatever amount he wants to as long as it is at or above the league minumum or up to or below the max for a player of his current stature. A players current team can still make the biggest offer if they hold his bird rights making signing true max guys harder and harder unless they really want to leave.

Restricted Free Agents means that the team the player currently plays for has the option to match any offer sheet that another team signs the player for. For Example: Player X is a Restricted Free Agent for team Y. Team Z signs X for 4 years and $20 million. Team Y can then match the 4/$20 and keep X. If the team does not match the offer, then they may get compensatory draft picks from the other team.

An Unrestricted Free Agent can sign for any team at any time. The team that he used to play for has the same chance as any other team to sign the player.

Reatricted means the team he is on can keep the player after their contract if they offer just as much money as any other team is offering him for his next contract.

Unrestricted means that the player can go where ever he wants to after his contract is up regardless of the amount of money a team is offering him.
