actually while on msconfig, if you dotn know what you doing dont toy around wit it. if you uncheck everything your system might not start certains things it need to run properly. So if you want to speed it up a good thing is to uncheck those thing that you know. such as messeger, and other programs you have installed that can be started later.

If you're not sure what you're stopping you could accidentaly turn off something essential.
There are 2 easy ways, try Winpatrol and Ccleaner. Both programs allow you to control your startup programs, but show you icons and names so you can see what you're doing. Winpatrol won't let you mess with Windows either! Both programs have other features and are free.

Run Ccleaner to keep your pc fast, use the Issues tool then the Cleaner. The Startup feature is under Tools, it also has an uninstaller.
In future run that after you uninstall software.
Remember to defragment your hard drive once a month at start - programs - accessories - system tools - disc defragmenter, leave the pc while it runs. If your files are split up it takes Windows longer to find them.

In theory this would speed up your computer immensly but not recommended as you could turn off the antivirus solution you have installed on comp.
Just some of the items that are safe to remove are:-
Msn messenger
Nerocheck
ctfmon
If that doesnt help try defraging the hard drive cleaning out any files you do not use using control panel add/remove programs use disk cleanup. Also try installing spybot or adware and search your computer for any malicious spyware etc.
This should help

you can stop them all if you wish.
it only stops the prog starting on start up.
only thing to make sure is that any anti virus or firewalls are left to start, everything else can be stopped unless you want them auto starting.
this is sometimes a good way to stop conflicts when your system boots, by stopping them and then starting one at a time until the culprit is found.
by the way, if you have a lot of progs running on start up, unchecking the options can make your system boot faster....i uncheck them all except for the ones i mentioned.
