if you're just starting to watch 24, then I would buy the first season.
However, it is my opinion that season 2 was the best one. Season 4 was also good.

The first season it was so exciting I could not wait for the second season. The second season was thrilling as well I stopped watching during season three because it was so irritating so I would say 1 then 2 after that I had enough.

I'd have to go with the first season. The character they had for the president was the best one so far (he's the black guy doing the insurance commercials now).
The second and third season had so many kidnappings and kidnapping escapes and rekidnappings that it got to be stupid and predictable. Last year's season and the current season have improved.

I didn't really like season 4 or 5 that much, but now that season 6 has started to tie everything that happened all together, i'm rewatching all 5 seasons.
Will ANYTHING beat Bauer?!

All of them!! This show is so addictive. If you have not seen them all, I suggest maybe renting and watching them in order. Sometimes it helps because certain things that happen in one season are brought back in another season, and if you have not seen them you may not understand fully what's going on. Enjoy!
