If there's an accident they cause nasty injuries most which scar for life as opposed to grass.

When I was at school I had grass fields with hopscotch areas carved out of the non-grass earth areas!

I used to work in a special needs school and where the tarmac needed replacing I used a product that looks like (and even smells like, unfortunately) tarmac. It used the same process to lay it too. BUT...
instead of bitumen coated stones, I used a product that was made with recycled, ground up, car tyre rubber bits. Better for the environment cos its recycled, and better for the kids, they bounced.
Seriously though, if I can use this product, why cant all places with kids use it? I just wish I could remember what it was called.

We could just keep everyone indoors all day in case they get hayfever, splinters from plants, insect bites. Or wrap them in protective suits so they could still go outside but if they fell would never, ever be hurt. I'm sure that would help them understand what the real world is like outside school??

Sorry. I have an 8yr old who runs, falls over, grazes knees and elbows. Then gets up and carries on. Sometimes a hug helps, but I know lots of people who survived concrete, tarmac, swings, roundabouts, playing conkers, climbing trees. Reasonable precaution is good, don't let them play on a landfill, but we must not smother our children or what sort of adults will they become?

The whole time I was at school the playgrounds were (and still are) Tarmac. It is by far the easiest, safest and cheapest surface to maintain - the maintenance of the playgrounds HAVE to come out of the school budget.

It does NOT cause any more injuries than grass.

You have to consider the alternatives. If we didn't have tarmac, then it would be grass, and it would be very muddy in winter, causing kids to fall over everyday and get filthy all the time. I'm not saying that getting muddy is bad - quite the opposite in fact, but without tarmac the entire school would be covered in mud!

It is about time people started letting children play and take risks instead of worrying if they are going to scrape there knee if they fall.Of course safety flooring should be used under climbing frames etc but surely it is going a bit too far not to have tarmac playgrounds. What next children's school uniforms made of bubble wrap
I am fed up of traditional childhoods been ruined my stupid rules and regulations.
When I was a child we spent most of our time outside climbing trees ,riding(and often falling off)bikes , flying down the steepest hills we could find on our roller skates, playing hare and hounds, building go carts out of bits of old prams and generally having fun...what have children got to remember of there childhoods now...the most dangerous activity the might pursue is a birthday party at the local play gym with everything covered in padding- in-case some neurotic parent sues!
Give kids there childhood back!

Why worry with the enable technique while good acquaintances stand waiting to help England in those concerns. i'm valuable French missiles could properly be got here upon already concentrated for Grampions and Snowdonia. English is in another country adequate as is on sunlight in seek of holidays to no longer point out bloddy colonials so it fairly isn't any longer in all hazard to vanish suddenly; greater the pity from perspective of eire. Any final words, old element.

most schools have special play ground surfaces but if kids are gonna fall there gonna fall. you can't protect them all the time.

I'm quite proud of my scars. i know how i got each one and believe it or not they bring back fond memories of how much fun i used to have growing up!

Well, either way could cause problems... Kid's getting pica, Kids stepping on anthills.... Harder to play games like four-square... I guess it's because some kids play basketball and foursquare.. So it could be troublesome if they didn't.
