stress and anxiety are 2 causes. but there are many. Fear is another. sometimes I dream about fire because it is the thing I am most afraid of.

for me a movie like Texas chainsaw mas II. combined with a greasy pizza. A couple of Vodka shots just increases the likelihood. I rarely have them without some out side stimuli. Something stressful in the frightening way or really sad.

After my grandmother died I kept dreaming she was alive and about to die in all kinds of "not nice" ways and I had to prevent it from happening. I never could make it on time.

supposedly if I come to terms with her death and save her the dreams will go away. But time heals or something -- they are fewer, and fewer.

I would think if things are stressing you out or worrying you in reality, then aspects of them would start to seep into your dreams.

Also, it could be that you just watched a frightening movie before going to bed.
