I have this friend. He is english. He raves about Earl Grey. I don't understand it. Then I watch Star Trek the Next Generation, and It is Picard's favorite as well. The Englishman in The Da'Vinci Code drinks it too. Do all scholarly Englishmen drink it?

It is a delicious tea. The added Bergamot has a singularly tasty note. It is my favorite - especially on a rainy afternoon. And yes, I am a coffee drinker.
It is rather like the difference between a hefty morning coffee and a tasty vanilla latte later on.
Try it sometime!

This scholarly Englishman (ok, I promote myself slightly)
prefers Lapsang Souchong.
I acquired the taste at university, when black tea became a good idea as all the milk in the communal fridge either went off or missing.

Otherwise it should be traditional railwayman's tea: the taste and colour of old brass.

You got me...but I love the stuff. I grew up in a very British household and we drank tea with every meal, between every meal...my little sister even had hers in a bottle as a child (I know, not healthy, but she loved it)...Earl Grey is one of my favs, though I like Orange Pekoe as much as the next bloke...

And those who aren't scholarly as well. Though I usually drink Orange Pekoe during the day.

God knows. I hate the stuff. Much prefer Lapsang Suchon or Orange Peko myself, with a couple of Bath Olivers.

I am of English/Scottish/Irish/Welsh and Scots-Irish extraction living in the States. I and my eldest sister both love Earl Grey - it is genetic!

I'm English and, believe me, any Englishman who says he drinks Earl Grey is talking bo**ox!! After all - who would REALLY enjoy drinking a bottle of perfume?! They just know that people from other countries expect them to say that, they play on it!
Typical bl**dy english men! They really are up their own a**es!! And if they truly like drinking that stuff, then - boy, have they no taste!!

Earl Grey disgusts me. Just a nice common mans brew will do me.

I think it is a wonderful brew, but my male relatives (scholarly and otherwise) spurn it because it in some way impugns their masculinity. But that bewitching fragrance of Bergamot does wonders for me!

The odor of it stops me from wanting to get near enough to drink it. I don't like Lady Grey either, which is tea and citrus flavoring.

Give me English Breakfast or Irish Breakfast, please.
