I have no idea what's wrong with it. I have a 2002 Ford F150, and it's not wanting to shift. It's an automatic and this problem just started last night. I filled up the gas tank last night and since then, it's been having trouble changing gears. Could it be bad gas? If it is bad gas, could the gas station be responsible? We also had some really bad storms last night, so could the distributor cap be wet? Do you think it needs transmission fluid? I have no idea what's going on. I'm afraid it's bad gas. If it is, what can I do? I really need some help.

If the problem tends to go away when the weather drys up, that would indicate an ignition type problem especially if your truck has spark plug wires. "Skipping" is a cylinder misfire which can be caused by a multitude of problems, including ignition and air/fuel ratio related. Your emissions control subsystems can cause a misfire.

First of all, where did you fuel up your truck? Was it a National brand, or independent? Second of all, the symptom you describe, can have many different meanings to it. Did your 'check engine' light come on? If it did, did it FLASH and then come on, and stay on steady? Is so, right away you know it's because you have a cylinder misfire that can have numerous causes, too numerous to mention here. What is the exact symptom? Are you saying that it will accelerate normally, but won't upshift from 1st to 2nd? Or does it bog down, fart, skip, run rough as you attempt to accelerate? Or does the engine rev up normally and smoothy, but vehicle does not increase? The three situations I just described can all have very different causes. The I described it, is exactly the kind of detail you will need to go into, if you want your truck fixed quickly, by whomever you choose to take it to. Hope this helps.

first, your probably dont have a distibutor cap. You might need tranny fluid. Check it and if you haven't in the past 50,000 mile, have your fluid changed. I'd would probably have to fuel filter replaced, most places will charge you $60, it costs less than $10 and ten min to do it yourself.

transmission is slipping. check the fluids (while the engine is hot) because they may be low. if the fluid is at a good level and is not too dirty, check with a mechanic.

worst case scenario: you need to replace the transmission.
