Be creative and flexible, organized but not rigid. It does not take a lot of money to live well or graciously. Your home should reflect who the people are living in it, where they have been, what they love and who they are. Reuse or recylcle anything and everything you can. What looks like an ordinary, everyday item can be reinvented into something beautiful. Routine helps keep things running smoothly, but make certain that it doesn't become so written in stone that you cannot be spontaneous enough to break it for some fun. Be open minded enough to realize that as long as a job or chore gets done, it doesn't always matter the method or techniques used to do it. The kitchen is the heart of the home and is one of the best places to find out what is really happening in the lives of those in your family. Cooking is NOT a solitary activity, it is always more fun with others participating. Practice the art of living well and you will live well.

organize and declutter. have a filing system for bills, receipts and important papers. As soon as you get mail from the mailbox, walk straight to the trash can and throw away the junk and only keep what you need.
whenever you go from one room to another look for something that needs to head in that general direction, like a cup, pair of shoes, mail, etc.
Keep paper towels and all purpose cleaner in each bathroom and kitchen for quick tidying up. Empty waste baskets the night before trash day and take it all out at once. Do all of your sweeping and vaccuuming at once.
keep a stack of plastic cups by the sink and when you're done with your drink, wash out the cup and put it back in the stack. glasses are for when company comes.
make sure the house smells good.
Use a laundry sorter. and when it's full, throw a load in. Everyone should have their own towels and use the same one at week at a time. If you hang it up after using, it won't get musty.
if you have central air, change your air filters often to avoid recirculating dust. Change your vacuum cleaner bags often. I try not to use that sprinkle stuff on the carpet, it just creates more dust.
As far as children go, I don't have any but I have a friend with two little ones. Juice, milk, and snacks must be consumed at the dining room table. only water may be brought into the living room. she has an impeccable carpet. Also, she rotates their toys by stashing them in a spare bedroom closet and swapping them out every now and then. the kids are too young to realize but they have 1/2 as many toys to leave laying out.

If you have kids, start there. feed them wash them educate them.
Now if no kids are in the picture being a homemaker can be fun!
Start decorating the place . It's nice to live in a nice space. Some flowers, some color pillows, nothing to extravagant, just add your own touch .
Food: Marthastewart.com has the best recipes and they are very easy to do .
If you don't like to follow recipes, just grill on a pan anything ( chicken, fish, beef, veggies - all kinds) add salt and pepper and delicious meals will appear in front of you .
Buy glade aroma for the plugs. makes the home smell great
use clean sheets ( change once a week)
Enjoy !

Buy the book 'Haley's Hints'! All the hints and tips you need for EVERYTHING! Here are e few examples:
Don't spend loads on buying vaccuum bags, black bags tied with elastic bands work just as well!
Dirty brass doorknob? Rub with a slice of lemon!
Tipped wax on your carpet, a warm iron on kitchen roll will have it up in seconds.
Cooking and run out of mushrooms? Chopped cooked celery has the same texture.
Want to clean silver without scrubbing? Line your sink with foil, add water and soda crystals and leave the silver to soak for 2-5 minutes!
And SOOO many more!

Yes i would agree with everyone that you should be organized. Also try to do certain things on certain days. That always helps me. for example: i only do laundry on mondays and tuesdays, i deep clean the bathrooms only on monday so that way the rest of the week i can have time to do other things or clean the rest of the house and be able to keep up with it and not be too overwhelmed. Good luck:)

Keep micro fiber cloths at all times.
We buy this cleaning cloth off the internet. You have to buy in packages of 5 but they are only like $3 bucks a piece. I have ordered them and use them on everything, especially cleaning windows and clean mirrors. They are made out of tiny fibers. They are guaranteed not to scratch and all you do is rinse the cloth under water, wring it out and wipe ANY surface with no streaks or scratch. Use em over and over. I have not thrown one away yet!
I am sold on this ...I encourage you to try it out….hope this helps…Steve
