You can run 2 anti-viruses but it's not a good idea. They will conflict with each other and waste your computers resources. You won't be twice as safe, you will probably be less safe.

Why would you want too? But the main reason you would never have 2 anti viruses on the same computer is that it would cause conflict between the both. Meaning that one will read the other as a virus. Its like having 2 wives under the same roof.

Because they are "incompatible"
The PC magazines say this is because both programs use the same key parts of your computer system, that is in plain language "an anti-virus imbeds small programs into your system and is thus able to detect any INTRUSION and detect it,warning you and removing it".
If there were TWO doing the same thing you can easily see why they COULD not function properly.

Antivirus programs actively scan in real time when a file is accessed. If you have two one will scan a file, which the other will detect and do its own scan, which the first one detects, and they start thrashing. You can have a second one on your computer if it's not doing real-time scanning, as long as you disable the active one when you want to scan with the secondary one.
