Only on a surrendering person only you can hit without risk of fighting back.Americans knew Japan will be surrendering.Dropping of Bomb was to test the effectiveness of bombs. They were not sure as to whether bomb will work or not.It was the earliest opportunity to experiment/check.

Who told you that the Japanese were seriously considering surrender? Do you know that there was a serious attempt made by Officers of the Imperial Japanese Army to to prevent the surrender even AFTER the bombs were dropped. They wanted the country and its people to go down fighting to the bitter end, with the consequent loss of life, both Japanese and Allied forces, and of course Japanesde civilians. Do you seriously think the President of the United States actually thought "Ok, so they are about to surrender, but lets test the bombs on them anyway. So what if thousands are killed and maimed". Cynical little chappie, aren't you! Remember, the surrender came AFTER the second bomb was dropped, not after the first.

Gads, do you have to learn history. Go back to school and study this time. The Japanese refused to surrender and certainly not to the Russians. The USA calculated that at least one million American soldiers would be killed if we invaded Japan and over two million Japanese because they would fight to the end. When the Emperor decided to capitulate he was almost overthrown by a force of Army officers who revolted against the surrender. They were caught and executed. I realize that killing innocent people by dropping an atomic bomb was a horrible thing, but this was war and we had to end it before we lost more Americans. This was the only quick (albeit horrible) way to do it. Don't think that Truman and most Americans hated dropping the bomb. Americans are not murderers.

The Japs were far from innocent. They were the most brutal during WW2, torturing prisoners, raping, looting and killing at will.
On top of that they launched a cowardly attack on Pearl harbor, they deserved to be taught a lesson.
If you think America's Satanic you need your head examined. What about the Holocaust or the atrocities the Germans and Russians comitted on the Eastern Front?

The Japanese forcesw had no intention whatsoever of surrendering to the allied forces. They considered themselves to be the Knights of Bushido and were ready and willing to fight to the death. The Americans had already lost 300,000 men and were not going to lose anymore. The Japanese in WW2 got what they deserved, as did Hitler. The Americans dropped millions of leaflets asking the Japs to surrender, and warned them of the consequences if they didn't give up their arms. They had no answer from Tojo or the Emperor.

Actually, the whole world knows Japan was NOT surrendering. U.S.Intelligence was to the effect that Japan would follow the code of Bushido, i.e. death before surrender. The U.S. forces had experience of this as, e.g. Iwo Jima. In fairness the U.S. President therefore had the choice of sacrificing a couple of enemy cities, or facing many hundreds of thousands of U.S. forces casualties in an invasion of the Japanese home islands. Indeed, such U.S. casualties could run into the millions. Bear in mind also that at that time, the A-Bomb was merely regarded as a large explosive device. The radiation, and after effects, were not known.

The USSR was not at war with Japan when the bombs were dropped. The USA & Britain did not want them involved in Asian politics, and wanted Japan to surrender to the USA for that reason.

All I know is there were lots of doctors and different types of technicians sent to Japan shortly afterwards giving the impression it was to test the bomb and the devastating results it had on human beings

US Firebombings in japan killed many many more innocent people then the a-bombs did. The US did not know the Japanese were surrendering. The USSR was an evil power, Stalin killed more people than Hitler did, keeping them in check isn't a bad thing. America haters need to wise up.

The whole world knows? Can you back that tinfoil-conspiracy crap up with some facts? This is not a question but an idiotic rambling rant on a dead-horse of an issue.
