When you consider that people in North America eat lobster, crab and shrimp every day without complaint, our social taboo against eating insects seems pretty bizarre.

Why is one group of arthropods acceptable, but the other is just gross?

Dunno.

There are many people all around the world who eat insects every day with no ill effects. Our ancestors certainly did. North Americans also eat hundreds of insects every year, they're just not generally aware of it. The number of ground flour beetles, tomato fruit fly maggots, and other bugs that in our regular food would probably make most people ill (even though they're perfectly harmless, and you've been eating them your whole life).

Some insects might not be healthy, due to toxins, or parasites in their body, but most of them would be an excellent food source.

They do tend to be pretty high in fats though. Some of them are downright greasy. Probably still better for you than McDonald's fries.

Depends on the bug.

If you eat a stinkbug you might get a tummy ache.

If you eat some other types of bugs you might be ok.

Also, do you mean bug as Order Hemiptera (the true bugs) or bug as an insect in general. There are all sorts of insects that are eaten all of the time. I would bet that you have eaten a few yourself (without your knowledge of course).
