It depends on the computer and the webcam.

1) Is the HP dv6000 computer running Windows XP or Windows Vista?

2) What kind of webcam is it.

If it's running windows vista, chances are it won't work for a while. I had my dv6208 running a Microsoft webcam and it worked for a day or so and then completely crashed my laptop. I'm running windows Vista and used the new Vista installation package for the webcam. The computer crashed, would not start, until I deleted that driver for the webcam. For some reason even though Microsoft released a vista driver it is still not working.

If you're running Windows XP let us know what camera it is so we can do some research.

UPDATE: Try running Microsoft Update to see if there's any updated drivers on that software. Also go to HP's website and search for your EXACT laptop model to see if HP has released any new updates for software and drivers.

It's extremely likely it's Vista that is causing the problems. Even though the camera is integrated into the laptop it may not be fully optimized to work with the new operating system. You could also call HP Tech Support and let them know you are having a problem. They may be able to send you a file to your email address that will fix the problem, or even send you a CD with a patch to your physical address.

You should have no problems with HP Tech Support, your laptop should have a 1 year warranty on it.

Use the HP speedy Play software to record an information superhighway cam video. I easily have a similar problem with my similar HP workstation. no answer yet, yet I easily have emailed tech help (which become quite quick and magnificent) They suggested they're engaged on a BIOS replace or something. once you've a similar problem digital mail tech help and rigidity them to speed the restoration up!
