My Master's is in sociology, sociology is different from social work and I cannot be a licensed social worker, but anyway, I feel that due to my mental health doing social/human service work is bad for me. I suffer from generalized anxiety disorder and sometimes it effects my job. I graduated in May and got my first professional job in December and got fired in February because I wasn't measuring up. I think I totally picked the wrong field, I cannot afford to get another degree yet nobody will hire me. Please Help!

In addition to what the last person posted. You might consider human resources, and other elements in business. A master's in sociology gives the ability to think. this is the key to any job. DA

"Sociologists are employed as researchers, administrators and consultants by private organizations and government agencies at federal, state and local levels. Those sociologist who become researchers and consultants may be involved in such areas as community development, urban planning, health care delivery, criminological research, planning social welfare programs, and various aspects of program evaluation. Others with computer and methodological skills may become statisticians or affiliates of various research institutes (working, for example, with the Census Bureau, a public opinion institute, or federal agencies planning health and education programs)."

Maybe there is an answer in that for you. First and foremost, your health comes first. If you do not have that under control, nothing else matters. Everyone works to make money, the most important thing you must ask yourself is, what makes you happy? How often can you do those things that make you smile?
You might want to think about taking a less stressful position and putting your student loan repayment on hold to give you some breathing room. If you call them and explain you are not well, they can help you. If you have credit card debt, get the insurance for health reasons and when you have everything lined up, go to your doctor and tell them whats going on. They should be able to provide the documentation you need. There are always options, sometimes you just cant see who to ask, ask everyone. Dont be shy, or embarrassed. Most people are kind and generous and those who aren't are soon found out and you just work around them.

I have struggled with my anxiety affecting my career choices too. I have a bachelor's in social work, and it took me a while to figure out I NEED social services more than I need to work in social services...hahahaha! I try to have a sense of humor about it. I think many people will see your having a master's degree in ANYTHING as valuable. That is a great accomplishment. Try to stay positive and really think things through. There is so much pressure and so many choices that it's hard to decide what direction you should go in... Sometimes it just takes time. :)

i don't how I'm go'n to start this or how I'm go'n to explain things for you coz it's a little bit complicated.first if you're still young you take another course that you really want to pursue but this time make sure that you really want that career you're go'n to take.second if your family will not support anymore to go back to school-you have to work for it.meaning like what i done in my i took a.b. economics for 4years and 2years of basic computer but what i really want is computer engineering.so what i did i just did my best what can i do to the course that i took already.i tried different job teacher, insurance agent, encoder even int he printing press.third time is so precious so don't waste it-make the best of it.i know you can make it it is just a matter of determination.

try working multiple jobs to get the money to do another profession or just ask your parents or a family member for a loan
