The good things: We know more about how children learn know and what we can do to help kids who are struggling. There is more of an emphasis on accountability for special education students actually learning-though the assessments need to be updated. We have more of a commitment to educating all children and youth. The new technology also opens up a lot of new methods and techniques in instruction.

The advantages are, it requires no brain mass and you can easily be home every day within an hour of the day ending. Largely, lesson planning is done for you by the district. You just fill in the page numbers. So much of your year is taken up by testing that you get to relax all the time. I have been teaching only 3 years and have will be a vice principal within 2 years because if you can smile and control a class, you are considered elite.

The children. There is never a dull moment in this career - and believe me I've worked in a lot of professions... working with kids is rewarding, stimulating, funny, sad, anything but boring! You can be creative, motivate people and make a difference.... and after putting in your hours, working really hard all term, you get to spend time with your own family on long school holidays.
