"Access to local air fields can usually be arranged for corporate jets and helicoptors, cutting hours off travel time (contact Accomack County Airport, 757-787-4600)
The Salisbury Regional Airport is about an hour's drive from Chincoteague.
Travel time by car - two hours from Norfolk" (which also has a large airport) or four hours from Washington, D.C.

I know that Ocean City, Maryland has a small municipal airport, which is just a few miles from far from Assateague/Chincoteage Islands. It's not a large commercial airport, so I don't think that regular airlines have planes that fly in or out. Norfolk, VA or Baltimore, MD or maybe Dover, DE might be your closest major airports.

There are several tiny airports. However, if you're looking for a large airport (which may be significantly cheaper), Baltimore-Washington is the closest major airport. However, you'll have a 2 hour drive from there.

Salisbury, Maryland is the closest airport with commercial service, but it is very limited and probably expensive. The next closest airports are Norfolk, Virginia, Baltimore/Washington Int'l. or one of the two Washington DC airports.
