I heard that if you get away from people who smoke and NOT allowing people to smoke in your house is part of to stop smoking.

But can you always be like that, avoiding people that smoke. Can you have desire to do it even after you stopped smoking for 3 months?

What's the best way to stop? What if you feel like whenever your sad, you smoke? Or else, you will be sad.

Try nicotine patches, gum, or support groups. It is also a good idea to stay away from other smokers.

Number one you have to be ready no gum, patch or anything will work if you do not want to quit. Staying away from it is good but hard to avoid always. In my opinion I would never let anyone smoke in my house even when I did I always went outside. And I believe that once a smoker always a smoker is so true it is like being an alcoholic you will always have to avoid the desire and it pops up every now and again sometime catching you by surprise what I know from starting and stopping in the past if it has been a while and you try it again it is pretty disgusting. Good Luck to you it is one of the best things you can do for yourself

Smoking it is very hard to stop. I would go and get something prescribe from a doctor. About not hanging around people that smoke that is going to be a very hard thing to do. About no smoking in the house is a great idea and it will help. But the desires do not go away that easy for the smoking. If you get sad depress or what ever just go for a good run trust me you will not have no desire to smoke, you will be to hot and tired and make sure you have a very nice glass of tea or lemonade sit down and relax. Good Luck.

Natural Quit Smoking Magic

I smoked for over 25 years. I bought Allan Carr's Book "Quit Smoking The Easy Way" and spoke to my Doctor about taking it seriously. We made a Stop Date of Nov 1st, 2006 and I got a prescription to Wellbutrin.
I have not had a smoke since then. Take the meds, read the book and if you truly WANT to quit smoking, you will.

Most smokers fail because they are quitting smoking for someone else, for some reason other than their own... If YOU want to quit smoking FOR YOU, you will.

(And that is not to say that I never had cravings, but my desire to live a healthier life out weights the desire for a cigarette every time it comes up. Now that I can breathe, taste food again, actually smell things and walk up stairs without getting winded, I can't imagine going back to smoking..)

I am very firm about not letting anyone smoke in my house or car. And I do avoid people who smoke. My mother has been a smoker since she was 16 and I have not been able to convince her to stop. But when we are together ans she lights up I go in another room until she is done. And she respects my request not to smoke in my house and car. It can be difficult but the reward is your health so it is worth all the effort. Also, if you find the need to smoke when you are stressed, try finding some kind of busy work for your hands. Crossword puzzles or get a hobby like knitting or model building. You can do it !

This is true that if you are in the company of people who smoke it is hard to quit. But more importantly, there are other psycological triggers that cause you to smoke.

While products such as nicotine patches and gums can reduce the physical craving, they do nothing to reduce psychological craving. The psychological dependence on smoking can be traced to your subconscious mind. The repetition of habits and inhibitions reinforces emotions in the subconscious mind. If you smoke, there are physical and mental associations connected with these emotions. Your subconscious mind will try to experience these sensations again and again. It will create a situation in which smoking will become a ‘necessity’.

Hypnosis is the most powerful ally in combating against smoking. Hypnosis seeks to evaluate what psychological purpose your smoking serves. For many people, smoking acts as a substitute for something they feel is missing, from their lives.

• People smoke as a substitute for companionship, love, security or self esteem.
• They actually feel a sensual gratification.
• They subconsciously believe that smoking looks cool.
• Their peers or parents smoke.
• They are trying to copy someone they admire.

The list is endless, any occasion of happiness, sadness, success or failure makes an excuse for smoking.

PLEASE READ EVERY WORD CAREFULLY!!!

It helps to not smell smoke at all.... yes. But I'll go beyond that. This is how I QUIT and got past the first week.... I was WANTING TO QUIT for a long time. I became ill with a stomach virus, you know like the 24 hour bug...

But it lasted 8 days. NOT because I smoke, but it just decided to last that long. It was long enough for me to notice how much I hate being sick to my stomach. I used to inspect medical equipment, so I have seen my share of people that were sick with Lung Cancer, and many other ailments that cigarettes cause. Seeing people actually suffering may help some quit, but it did not help me.

The commercials that try to make you feel guilty about smoking actually made me want a cigarette MORE! I took advantage of being sick, and not wanting to feel stomach sick like I was (If you have to go through cancer treatments, you will be sick to your stomach.)

I just decided to QUIT. No more. Thats it. Not for my girlfriend. Not for my kids. For me.

I don't want to feel sick. Maybe it is just me, but try carrots, the big ones. Gnaw on them, don't get the baby carrots, get the big ones. Drink water, stay away from coffee, stay away from caffeinated soda. PAY FOR YOUR GAS AT THE PUMP...DO NOT GO IN THE GAS STATION FOR ANY REASON.

I have tried every smoking quit aide, did not work for me. (I was smoking while on the patch.)

Let everyone around you know not to talk about your quitting... Better yet... before you quit (maybe a couple days before) tell everyone you know, not to mention anything about cigarettes, if they notice you have quit. You are trying to keep your mind off of cigarettes, and even positive reinforcement can be destructive ie: "did you quit smoking?" "Good for you... you will be healthier"... all the same annoying things that people would say when you were a smoker. THAT will make you want a cigarette.
Nothing can really "Keep" you from smoking, just stop, and fight it. It is "dam" hard. (I know that is spelled wrong.) It's hard. All the power to you.

Oh yeah... DO NOT SMOKE ONE PUFF OF A CIGARETTE AFTER YOU HAVE QUIT. YOU WILL START AGAIN, GUARANTEED, I PROMISE!

I smoke and if i stayed away from other people who smoked that wouldn't stop me from quitting i would still want to smoke so i dont think that makes a difference. In order to stop smoking you really have to want to stop. I smoke because it relieves stress so i dont think that right now i could quit. If you want to quit try chewing gum or get suckers. And stop smoking when you wake up in the morning. Don't stop in the middle of the day.

If you Love your self enough to live healthy life, you got to have a will power, controll, say No to Ciggarettes. If your'e sad, depressed, smocking make your health life miserable and never going to be happy. pretend that you don't like ciggarettes, smell, and you never smoke. To make you feel better lisen to the Radio, music, T.V. Games, talk to family or friends, neighbors, pray, medetate, exercise, or eat nutrition other than smocking. Bad habbits very hard to avoid, unless, you stay away with the smockers, eat kit-kat, cheuing- gum or something occupied.
