As cold sores are a viral condition, the problem will always be laying dormant in your system, however if you are wanting to clear them up, keep out of the sun, as this will create more blistering.
Also be careful with toothpaste, as this has been known to swell the lips, use a herbal toothpaste. And stress is the main culprit.
It's what you need to avoid, rather than a remedy after the cold sores have appeared.

mix baking soad with water till its a paste.
Dab it on and let it dry for 20 minutes. You can also leave it on during the night but that might be annoying

Lysine works very well. My brother gets them and that is what he takes. It was recommended by our dentist.
