I'm goth. And alot of my friends are goth as well. We are nothing like you think we are. Some of us believe in God, some the devil, and some of just believe in ourselves. We're not all depressed, don't all dress dark, we listen to all kinds of music. Some listen to metal, country, rap, hip/hop, oldies. We are a mix of things. Yeah, we can look a little freakish but we're not freaks, sex fiends (well not all of us), nor are we all druggies. Anyone can be a freak, druggy, sex fiend, devil worshipper, and not dress or show it openly. Sometimes it is just a phase and sometimes it's just who we are. Being goth is not something to fear. Just because it's easier to fear that which you don't understand doesn't mean we are evil. Try taking time to talk us and you'll find we are just as down to earth as any of you. We think logically and are creative just like anyone else. Being goth is just a state of mind. Not a fashion statement or a "cult". And we don't hurt animals or people.

Generaly i dont ahve a problem with goths. i went through a stage were i actually was a goth. i made new friends although some were on drugs and some wern't they actually were intresting. on what they had to sai about life. i think that they are the same as people, they just have a diffrent way of showing there feelings and dressing differently. i guess that people just have a miss conseption about goths, it is not all about vampires, and etc... but its more than that. and some people can also just be some haters, and stuck up ingnorant people, judge the outside of a person

The goth scene I knew was pretty exclusive and into random sex and drugs along with dancing to really horrible music. It became almost like a cult and I almost ruined my relationship getting involved with those people. I am sure not all goths are the same, though. Just the slimey ones I was associated with were like that.

Being a mother of 3 children I pray that they don't dress "goth" just like I hope they don't dress like a "slut". However I do have a question for you. Why if the way you dress do most "goth people get mad when people look at them. They are making a statement with their dress. They are saying "LOOK AT ME" with the piercings and the BLACK. I have young children and they openly stare. I stop them of when they do (because it just rude). If ya want e-mail me I would really love to chat about it. t_fairchild@sbcglobal.net

people tend to get freaked out by things they dont understand and express it in rude, nasty, disrespectful ways...I went thru a goth phase (now im the girliest girl ever lol) but I dont see anything wrong with it...I mean if ur like drinking animal blood and doing EVIL witchcraft (b/c there is GOOD witchcraft - wicca - which I used to be really into too) then I would be a lil' freaked out but, Hey, as long as your a good person thats all that should really matter to people. Unfortunatly we're in a world where everyone is stuck on themselves and thinks if anything is different from what their used to then its wrong, etc....I personally think people just need to grow up and get over themselves.

As a conservative upper-middle class ... well... "asshole" (ok, yes self described), I'd say i agree with that statement that we don't like 'em and most likely never will. Why? Well they just all come across as freaks, druggies, and/or losers and a bad influence on my child that I'm trying to raise. Do I want my kid to go Goth? Hell no. So in a way, I'm sure that the Goth scene scares many people on some level.

Because when someone dresses "goth" it is very dark and so people relate that with the devil. Personally I could care less.. but when I used to dress "goth" it was because I had no self esteem and thought that being dark and depressed was cool....and it isn't it is sad.

well, in my experience with Gothic people is they are usually very self centered, rood, and sometimes weird. And I have to admit the ones who take it real far look wrong. But i do have to admit if you want to hang out with someone who doesn't care what you like or how you act then a Gothic person would be the best choice, and i do have to admit it can be sexy at times. I think i have grudge because i tried dating a Gothic girl for about 3 years and she turned my life into a living hell.

Not everyone - most people (aka regulars). Expect everyone to blend in, because then they can compete against each other by comparing the differences within their similarities (different brand cloths, different cars, etc).
Goths are already different - thus thretening the "regulars's" sence of similarity, which is in a way their sence of individuality.

Most people find the dark eyes and excessive amount of black off putting and/or frightening. Personally, I think it can be cool, when done correctly.

on the other hand, the goth scene does have the emo baggage that it carries with it.

I dont think "everyone" has something against it, I just think certain people have major issues. There are millions of different kinds of people in this world today, and we all have our own choice in who we are and who we wanna be, how we wanna dress, wether we wanna be bi, lesbian, gay. There are so many choices, and I feel people shouldnt judge others. I like all people, it shouldnt matter what they look like, or how they dress, like them for who they are. And I dont see anything wrong with goth.
