You will be fine. Buy a wireless router and with it comes an installation disk, this walks you through the steps 1 by 1, you can take as long as you want so you will be fine

As far as setting it up...the physical configuration is pretty easy....however the security portion could be a little more challenging. If you live in the middle of nowhere and/or you dont care if others are using your network then you do not need to have any security other than the firewalls on your desktop and your laptop.

Documentation is included with most routers...and if the documentation is not clear...you can call their tech support and ask them to help you secure your network.

There are 2 different types of wireless security...The first being the WEP key....

When you enable a WEP key you are essentially creating a password for your wireless network....Anybody that does not have the password cannot access the network....This form of wireless security is fairly effective against the average computer user.

The second way to secure your wireless connection is to use MAC Filtering....

When you enable MAC Filtering....nobody can get onto your wireless network unless you have programmed the router to accept that wireless adapter's MAC address...Even without WEP encryption nobody can get onto your network.

When I was working for DSL Tech Support I was able to walk people through setting up various routers and wireless gateways. Most of the customers that called in were less than average technical knowledge....If you can follow instructions...there should be no problems....

If your cable modem has a wireless router built-in (if it has an antenna it probably does), then you just need a wireless adapter for the laptop. If the modem has a wired router (multiple ethernet ports in back numbered 1-4 but no antenna) you also need a wireless access point, which you just plug into one of the numbered ports. If the cable modem has no router built-in at all (just one output port for your computer) you need a wireless router. They're pretty easy to set up using the install CD, but you can email me for help if you need it.

the quick answer is yes, the cable goes to a cable modem, then the cable modem connects to the wireless router (there are many different models and features, talk to a computer store geek), at that point you can have several computers in different sections of your house connected to the internet at the same time. the set up of the router takes a bit of knowledge, but you just call the techsupport guys for the router, and they will walk you thru it.

No its very simple.. just follow the onscreen instructions that come with your wireless router all you have to do is have a wireless card in your pc or the laptop has a wireless card.. a bit more complicated to password protect it but all in all a simple thing to do even for somebody like me..hope this helps

This is actualy quite easy tp set - up.

With internet ready / wireless laptops, all you have to do is synchronise both units and set them up.

It's just like switching the local area connection from your main pc, and enabling your laptop to pick up the signals from your wireless hub.

Besides, once you go to the 'setting internet connection' bit in your laptop, it will give you step by step info on how to do it.

Good Luck

It should be quite easy, even for a novice. Yes, you will need a wireless card in every computer that you want to connect to the wireless network, then you can connect from anywhere within a couple hundred feet.

Its very easy, get your wireless router, plug it in, turn on your laptop, a few simple setup steps and your good to go.

However, do not leave your router at its default settings, it will work but you need to enable wireless security (read the guide). At least WEP but preferably WAP. This also is pretty simple.
