It's about a man who dies in a car crash and goes to Heaven. But, when he gets there, he learns that his wife committed suicide and is now in Hell. The novel's basically about his journey into Hell to save his wife in an attempt to live together in Heaven.

It was a Robin Williams' movie a few years back...What Dreams May Come is the title. Hope this helps!
