There were a few vapid periods:
late 50s/early 60s (pre-Beatles)- Nothing but cloned "teen idols". "All-American" White male singers. All the same...
Late 70s disco (after the fad was dying)
mid/late 80s (after MTV took hold & it was all about flash in the pan pop acts like New Kids on the Block, Tiffany, & lousy hair metal like Bon Jovi, White Lion, Poison, Cinderella, etc)
mid 90s pop (eg: Spice Girls & the whole rash of boybands)
Now (American Idol. Need I say more?)

Now is one of the most pathetic and worst eras in rock, when bad haircuts, makeup and sappy songs about cutting your wrists are on MTV. pathetic and embarrassing. Glad my generation liked stuff like nirvana, fugazi, and Smashing pumpkins (before they fired Jimmy

Right now with American Idol and the other worthless crap. I'm not a fan of the grunge era but even that is not as bad as the crap on the airwaves right now. Disco was downright horrible also.

This one.....I weep for all you kids out there. No G n' R,No Ozzy, nothing worth listening to. If rock had a life,it would be in a ICU in a hospital hanging on by an IV of greenday.

Now. There is no good rock and roll, just rap, hip hop, and drivel.
