I've had this exact problem. My main computer crashed and all the music got erased. When it was fixed I had to put Itunes and my music back onto the computer, however, it asks to sync it with the computer. DO NOT DO THIS. You'll lose all your music. The first thing you want to do is to put the music on the computer. To do this uninstall all Itunes software from the computer. Next attach your Ipod to the computer. It should recognize it as a "mass storage device" or something to that affect. I then went into the start menu and over to my computer. I then accessed the Ipod and went into the music files. This is the crappy part. You have to put the music into a folder on the computer. The next thing you would do is to reinstall Itunes on the computer. Once this is done you need to take the music from the folder and put it into the Itunes library. Safely remove your Ipod using the safely remove hardware function in the bottom left hand corner of your computer in the expendable menu. Then all you need to do is unplug the Ipod, plug it back in and sync it to the library.

Make sure you have authorized your home computer. Then click on update ipod. It should work, but remember, the songs on your work computer will be lost. It will ask you if you still want to upload the home computer songs. Say yes to get the songs on your home computer.
