I was just asking. Because I am curious. Curious of what American Society knows about the People here before European contact. I am from an Ojibwe (Chippewa) Tribe in Northern Minnesota. I am also mixed, part Blackfeet from NW Montana near Glacier National Park. Up here where I live in northern MN, There is a group fighting my Tribe, they are tuanting us, calling us down, demoralizing, and scape goating us. Its quite ugly. They print slanderous ads and editorials in the local newspapers. This is 2007 and rampant racism is fierce in the region i live. Its quietly tucked away in the northwoods. Away from the mainstream. I was wondering what your opinions are on the people. From what you know now. I want honest answers. I don't care what they are. I am just doing research on societies views on the Native American Community. Thanks for your time and I hope you repond.

Race has become or less a social construct. It it is a way to conviently categorize people based on ancenstry and superficial appearance. As long as people stay ignorant and close-minded, racism will always persist. Native Americans are human beings like everyone else. Despite some differences in culture, I am quite sure many experiences are universal to people all over the world. Those racists need to grow up and learn that the world has to be shared among all people.

I don't know what society's view is. I know that I find Native Americans a fine and proud people. I love history and have read many books. One of the most shocking and cruel things I discovered was that the White man exposed blankets to smallpox and then traded with the Indians as a way to kill them so they could take over the land. That broke my heart. Tecumseh Shawnee said "Sell a country! Why not sell the air, the great sea, as well as the earth? Did not the Great Spirit make them all for the use of his children? Pretty deep huh? I say be proud but not haughty.

Coming from a European American who's fed up with this diversity nonsense and multi-culturalism, I'll give you a good answer without being a patronizing white.

I think most European Americans find Indians interesting. You'll see many such people with Indian related furnishings in their home. You'll find that many people of European decent find that certain attributes and abilities of Indians to be interesting.

Overall, I have a good opinion on Indians. But I'm not going to be cowed into having any stupid white guilt some professor says I should have. Why? Because there was no United North American Indian nation. And Indians got paid for a lot of the land settlers built on. By the way, I don't approve of the "yeah we took your land and conquered you talk many people offer on yahoo answers."

I'm not American and don't know much about Native Americans, but I'm sorry about the problems you've been facing and I do believe that more should be done to preserve the culture. I'd love to know more about the tribes as it seems interesting.

I'm not proud at all of what the white man has done to the native americans.....it's tragic and whenever people say racism is over because the NAs have some casinos are dumb.
