Well you would want to introduce one vegi/fruit at a time, for like 3-4 days and see if there is any bumps or anything that may tell you if he has an allergic reaction. If nothing, then you are good to go on to your next vegi/fruit. I would suggest taking a number 1 jar, the 2.5 oz jar and try feeding him some at breakfast lunch and dinner, or breakfast and dinner. He wont eat much at first so dont worry to much. But about a jar a day, and then you may slowly go to 1 to 1 1/2 jars a day. If he seems more hungry feed him a little more. As for the bottles, you can feed him like you regularly would or when you feed him solid foods, bring his bottle down an ounce or two. But only at the times he is getting solids. You wont be giving your son only solid until he is alot older. My daughter is almost 12 months and she still gets a small bottle afterwards. Most likely once they go the regular milk is when its just going to be solid foods. Because the milk instead of being a meal (like a bottle would for an infant) it would only be liquids and wont fill him up.
Once you start feeding him and he is able to get more of the food down and not push it out of his mouth, then i would maybe try two jars. But doctors say do vegi's first, so they dont get hooked on sweet fruits. I would personally try sweet potoatoes first. They are sweet enough to get them to want to eat it, but not as sweet as a fruit. But that descion is completely up to you and your doctor.

You start with one jar a day and you will have to teach him how to eat it off a spoon it will be a little messy at first. You start with applesauce first and move to another clear or light colored food. You then move to orange then green as a rule of thumb. You use one flavor a week to make sure no food allergies. One jar will be plenty until for a few weeks to a month then you can try two depending on his appetite rule of thumb also a baby stomach is only the size of his fist so don't force to much down or it will come right back up. they will let you know when they are hungry.

When I introduced jarred food to my babies I started them out with oatmeal ( Gerber or Beechnut ) and I mixed 1/2 a jar of stage 1 applesauce into the oatmeal. I did this for a couple of days just to make sure there was no reaction from baby. After I saw that baby handled the applesauce good, then I kept that routine for breakfast, and tried 1/2 jar of a veggie for lunch. The best thing to do is to stick with one kind of jarred food for a couple of days just to make sure your baby can handle it and then switch to another for a couple days and so on. Your baby will still be on formula for the entire first year ( or should be ). After that milk and food. You will be able to tell when your child can handle 2 jars a day. After you try the oatmeal and 1/2 jar of fruit, if that seems to work out for him, try giving him the other 1/2 jar for lunch along with his veggies. Good luck and hope I was some help for you.

Is he interested in food at all? 5 months is a little early yet.
I would, personally, wait until hes showing signs of wanting food.
When you do start, let him deside of much he wants. Banana is a good first food, as is avocado... baked sweet potatos are good too... jars are just junk, fresh food is always preferable.
And, he will never only be on baby food. Babies should be feeding themselves table food by 9 or 10 months and they still need to nurse (or get formula) until at least a year.

theres stage 1 gerber in various foods. wat my doc said was to try the veggies first, and then after he tries all the veggies, try the fruit. but wat i did, was i gave my son both. after he ate the veggies, i immediately gave the fruits. i tried the same foods for 3 days to make sure he wasnt allergic. since you are starting, start wit rice cereal in the morning, mix it up wit babys milk. and then for lunch try the foods. after ward, give the baby the bottles. after he gets used to eating wit a spoon, feed him cereal in the morning, lunch and dinner and in between that, the bottles. my son immediately went to stage 2 because stage 1 didnt fill him up. he eats every 3 hrs. always give him the bottle cause its rich in nutrients he needs. he will pretty much let you know when its time to move til the next stage. my son is 8 months, and has been eating baby food since he was 3 and a half months. he now eats stage 3 wit tender pieces in it, and finger foods. all kids are different. my son eats everything. but there are kids who are picky. so be patient. if they try it and dont want it, dont force him. jus keep trying another day. dont worry, we all have been there.

i've got chanced on Pampers Swaddlers to be the wonderful "new child" diaper. as quickly as my toddlers have been given to length 2 diapers we went to the Pampers infant Dry diapers. We tried the two Huggies and Luvs, the two have been undesirable and leaked lots for our babies. i might additionally fairly propose the Pampers tender wipes. The Platex Nurser bottles have been my son's well known. My daughter is breast fed. The formulation we used for my son became Enfamil Lipil and we made our own infant nutrition yet sometimes we offered the Gerber infant nutrition.
